Dog Accessories


Dog accessories run the gamut from the functional to the frivolous. You will want to make sure you have the basics, and after that, it is all about style and fun.

The basics include, of course, a collar for your dog, along with an ID tag and whatever other tags are required by the area in which you live. Collars come in everything from heavy metal to sequins and pearls. Look for comfort and durability when choosing the everyday collar; your pet will be wearing it 24/7, all year around.

Leashes are the next necessity. Some expand and retract, while others are fixed at one length. Consider how you plan to walk with your dog to decide what the best choice for you is. Leashes, like collars, are available in a great array of styles; choose a style that is compatible with the collar.

Dishes for food and water, and mats to set them on to protect the floors, are essential as well. Next, consider a dog bed. Even if your dog is crate trained, a bed for daytime snoozing will offer your pet a special spot of its own, and may well save your furniture.  

Coats for dogs may seem frivolous, but can actually be quite necessary. These days, dogs live in climates they are not native to, and may need the extra warmth and protection that jackets can provide.
